nealI have a prowler coming in,fuel gauge hangs at 1/4 of a tank, sending unit was replaced at another dealer, did not fix it.so I need to look at other things.prowler owners that have had this problem please reply, what did the dealer do to fix it.this is an old topic I know so I forgot what the fix was. thanks
ed monahanNeal, I still have the problem. It is out of warranty and I can live with it. I check the trip odometer VERY closely now. Sorry I am no help.
ALLEY CATNeal - I vaguely remember back a year or so ago, somebody had this same problem (worse then most of us). Service department tried everything,,,problem wouldn't go away. I think they said a DC service zone rep came into the dealership and calibrated the gauge in the dash. Does that sound possible? I'm not sure if that story was fact or fiction???

Can you call a 800# back to DC for help on this problem?

I remember reading about one owner that had to have the PC board replaced behind the fuel gauge - after the sending unit did not fix the problem.

CLEE1052I just got my Kat back last night an attempt to fix my fuel gauge, it still does not work. They replaced the sending unit, I called them right up after I filled it up and it took 1 gallon, and it reads 3/4 full STILL. Of course they said they would call me today NOT!. So I called them, and advised them of the computer board, they said they will re-check the gauge first (what I don't know how to read a gas gauge?). They think of this board as a joke, they are such pri-ks.

Oooh ya, they looked at my a-arm they damaged when they replaced my ball joints, and stated" this is normal there is no way to take them out because of the tool without damaging the A-arms" BULLSH-T! Anyway I argued with them and they order a new a-arm but advised the bolts will get damaged because when they disassemble! Who knows, how did they get them on without damage in the first place? Just more BS, when this is said and done its time to look for a new dealership...

This sounds like it may very well be a fuel fill problem instead of a guage problem. The was an early TSB for slow fill and no fill problems.

idiveThis is for CJ in hopes she reads this thread... I wondered about this when I had a problem. When someone has bad experiences where damage is done during a recall like CLEE1052 indicated to his arms, do you know what Chrysler's policy is about having repairs done elsewhere? (I'm not limiting this question to just recall work in case it makes a difference.) Could he just take the arm to another dealer for repairs when it comes in? Could he have taken the car to another dealer to have the arm ordered and work done, or does he need to go to the same dealer that gave bad service in the first place? Same would apply for any misdiagnosis (as in the fuel gauge problem). Does he have to keep with the same dealer that originally did the work if he feels uncomfortable or unhappy or lacks confidence with the work they do?

CLEE - when the arms come in, I assume they will come in with the old ball joints in them. Remember to have new ones put in them too... That MIGHT be easier for them to do with the arm off the car. That way, you can also reject the arm if they mess it up doing the ball joint before it goes on the car. (Just food for thought.)

KrautI've stated this on several prior posts. I had the same problem. The dealer replaced the circuit board behind the dash and the problem is fixed. The gage is now very accurate, all the way from full to empty.
nealI have the instrument cluster out now.going to try a new circuit board,it has a processor chip on it.i think it is reading the fuel level sensor wrong.thanks for the info.guys
